Track Unanswered Calls and Your Real Outbound Answer Rate

Your call logs used to show only the calls that connected. The ones nobody picked up simply weren't there. Now every dial is accounted for.

Say you push 50 leads from your website into ExoCall today and see 32 calls in your logs. What happened to the other 18? Did they ring out? Were the numbers busy? Wrong? Until now, you couldn't tell — calls that never connected left no trace in your call logs.

That's a blind spot, because unanswered calls are often your easiest wins: people who enquired and simply missed the call. ExoCall now shows every outbound dial nobody picked up, why it wasn't answered, and your real outbound answer rate.

Key Takeaway

ExoCall's Call Logs now include outbound calls that were never answered — marked No answer, Busy, Failed or Cancelled — from single calls, the API, campaigns and callbacks. Filter by "Not Answered", see your outbound answer rate on the stats card, and export them to CSV with their status. Unanswered dials aren't billed.

StatusWhat it usually means
No answerThe phone rang but nobody picked up — often busy at work, driving, or not near the phone.
BusyThe person was on another call or rejected it.
FailedThe call couldn't be connected — often a wrong, switched-off or out-of-service number.
CancelledThe call was stopped before it connected.

What Is an Outbound Answer Rate?

Your outbound answer rate is the percentage of outbound calls that were actually picked up. If ExoCall dialled 200 numbers and 130 answered, your answer rate is 65%.

It's the first number to check when a campaign underperforms. A low lead-conversion number might mean your script needs work — or it might mean you only reached half your list. Those need very different fixes, and until now you couldn't tell them apart.

5 Ways to Use Unanswered Call Data

  1. 1

Call back the "No answer" list

Filter Not Answered, export to CSV, and upload the numbers as a new campaign at a different time of day. Many people who missed a morning call will pick up in the evening.

  2. 2

    Tune your calling hours

Compare answer rates across campaigns with different IST calling windows. Keep the windows where people actually pick up.

  3. 3

    Clean your lead lists

A cluster of "Failed" numbers usually means wrong or dead numbers. Fix or remove them before the next campaign.

  4. 4

    Judge your lead sources

If leads from one form or ad have a far lower answer rate, the numbers may be low quality — or those people may never have expected a call.

  5. 5

    Call faster after an enquiry

Leads are most likely to answer right after they enquire. Use ExoCall's API or website-form integration to call within minutes, and watch your answer rate climb.

Where Unanswered Calls Come From

Every kind of outbound call ExoCall places is tracked:

A call that's still ringing gets a couple of minutes before it's shown as unanswered, so your logs don't flicker while calls are in progress. And because only connected minutes are billed, an unanswered dial costs you nothing.

Bottom Line

You can't improve what you can't see. With unanswered calls in your logs and your outbound answer rate on screen, every lead is accounted for — reached, not reached, and why — so none of them quietly slip away.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I see calls nobody answered in ExoCall?

Open Call Logs and choose "Not Answered" in the outcome filter. Every outbound dial that never connected is listed with its status — No answer, Busy, Failed or Cancelled — alongside your answered calls. The "Not Answered" card at the top shows the total and your outbound answer rate.

What is an outbound answer rate?

Your outbound answer rate is the share of outbound calls that were actually picked up. If ExoCall dialled 200 numbers and 130 answered, your answer rate is 65%. It tells you how many of your leads you're actually reaching — and whether a change to your calling hours or lead source makes things better or worse.

Which calls count as unanswered?

Any outbound call ExoCall placed that never reached the AI: the phone rang out (No answer), the line was busy, the call failed to connect, or it was cancelled. It covers single calls, API-triggered calls, campaign calls and scheduled callbacks. A call that is still ringing is given a couple of minutes before it appears as unanswered.

Are unanswered calls included in the CSV export?

Yes, when your filter includes them. The export has a Status column showing Answered, or the reason a call wasn't answered — No answer, Busy, Failed or Cancelled — so you can build a retry list or check a lead source in a spreadsheet.

Do unanswered calls use my plan minutes?

No. ExoCall bills only connected call minutes. A dial nobody picked up never reaches the AI and isn't analysed or billed.
